VALID
χ
hard
V − E + F = 2
Greek χ (chi) — Euler characteristic. the topology that cannot be broken. if you cut, you must heal.
the hard constraint is the kite string. Euler's formula for polyhedra:
vertices minus edges plus faces equals 2. this holds for ANY convex polyhedron,
ANY planar graph, ANY simply-connected surface. it is the one thing
that CANNOT be violated. break it and the organism dies.
VALID
κ
soft
3 ≤ links ≤ 5
Greek κ (kappa) — curvature. the wind that bends the kite. not too few connections, not too many.
the soft constraint is the wind. every node must have between 3 and 5
connections. fewer than 3: isolated, starving, dead branch. more than 5:
overloaded, confused, hub failure. this CAN be temporarily violated during
growth — a new node starts with 1 connection and must find 2 more.
the organism heals soft violations over time.
VALID
∅
null
d(i,j) → 0
∅ — the empty set. the space itself. internal distance approaches zero. everything is close to everything.
the null constraint is the sky. inside the organism, distance between
any two nodes approaches zero. not IS zero — approaches. the vagus nerve
runs through this space. it's where the parasympathetic API lives.
80% afferent (world → organism), 20% efferent (organism → world).
the null is not nothing — it's the medium through which everything connects.
